After selling her thesis film, “Beats Per Minute”, to iTunes for distribution, Ball launched her career assisting award-winning commercial and music video icon Samuel Bayer. Her innovative storytelling technique and grasp of visual technology can be seen in commercials for Chevy, AT&T and Playstation. Andrea was selected for Shoot magazine’s 2012 New Directors Showcase for her Chevy, Imagination commercial. In this heartwarming spot, Ball bases a father and son’s nighttime excursion to convey the smooth, otherworldly nature of the Chevy SUV ride. As the spot starts, an iconic recording of a rocket launch propels the story, and the fluid, gravity-free ride begins. A football, a toy plane, and a coffee cup begin to float up as the Chevy reaches zero gravity. The clever details, visual fx and casting help create the perfect picture of the child’s imaginary journey in his father’s Chevy. Andrea Ball’s AT&T, Love in 4G, spot was selected for Shots Magazine’s 2013 Evolution Showcase. Again Ball strokes the heartstrings with this romantic commercial. Ball edits together shots, side by side of a girl writing a letter, and her boyfriend receiving it through text - a personal and creative way to show that 4G still carries all of the love and warmth of a letter. Her most recent commercial is PlayStation “Criminal”. Set against a simple backdrop, Ball shoots mug shots of edgy, tough characters, and slowly reveals they’ve been built out of our everyday working world. Her ability to convey the message that “Greatness awaits” with the PS4 in a unique and simple fashion is what makes Andrea an exciting director to watch. Her range from heartfelt, to edgy and complex, reveals a director that intuitively creates what’s right for the campaign. Andrea has been recognized for her talent and imaginative work as the recipient of Panavision New Filmmakers Grant, she is a member of the Women in Film, and is a Hollywood Foreign Press Fellow.
